In December last year I completed a Rescue 3 SRT1 Swift Water Rescue Technicians course ran by my brigade. Great course. Swimming about the Grantully rapids and "Magnetic" was "Interesting"!!.  A lot of the guys on the course were advocating the use of 5.10 Canyoneer boots. Anyone used them?. I'm looking at buying a pair for work ( we are supplied with footwear for Swift Water Rescue use but its pretty crap tbh so most SRT's buy their own boots ).

5.10 Canyoneers :-

5.10's look good so far, any other suggestions as what to look at?.

Hi Gary. the 5.10's are popular also worth taking a look at the Palm Merrill Gradient http://www.canoesandkayaks.co.uk/product/5141/Gradient_Shoe_MerrellPalm or some of the NSR boots http://www.waterantics.co.uk/products.php?category_id=99

Cheers Neil. I'm liking the Gradient boots, look good although a wee tad more expensive than the 5.10's. There was a guy selling 5.10's on eBay a few weeks ago cheaper than every where else, thats where some of the other lads in the SRT team got theirs. £60 plus a fiver postage, not bad.

Thanks for the links will follow them up.

Cheers,

Gaz.

Have a look at the Keens that Brookbank have in as well.
You might want to look at the NRS site in the states they have an amazing selection !5:10 have a SAR version coming out but I dont think it is available in the UK till next year.
I just use an old pair of lightweight mid high trainers.

The SAR 5.10's look interesting. Thanks for the "heads up" on those. Will bring them to the attention of our SRT Team, maybe if we contact 5.10 directly we can wangle a bulk discount.  Grin
